McHenry County Conservation District – South Prairie Trail – Brookdale Improvements

Jul 21, 2017

TAI was retained to provide design phase and construction phase services related to repairing a 15 mile stretch of the South Prairie Trail between IL Route 120 and County Line Road in McHenry County. Before beginning the design process, TAI met with District staff to walk the trail and mark out areas that required attention. Trotter and Associates prepared engineering plans to provide the limits and methods of repair for the areas identified in the field. The project included design of ramps and approaches in order to provide access to the trail meeting ADA standards.

The scope also included an analysis of shoreline erosion, design of the stabilization, and restoration of approximately 1,600 lineal feet of eroded slope directly adjacent to the trail. Several sections of the stream bank along the stretch of the trail had washed out during recent storm events, making the trail unsafe for pedestrians to use. TAI coordinated with the Army Corps of Engineers and McHenry County Storm Water to obtain the necessary permits to perform the restoration. In addition to the design, TAI provided construction administration services.
