City of North Chicago Awarded $2 Million through Rebuild Illinois Infrastructure Capital Program

Jun 02, 2022

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) has just announced that the City of North Chicago was awarded $2,000,000 for public subdivision improvements for its Sheridan Crossing development. Trotter and Associates, Inc. applied for this grant on behalf of the City of North Chicago through the Rebuild Illinois Public Infrastructure (RIPI) Capital Program. Grant funding will be used for the construction of storm sewer & detention basin, a water distribution system, sanitary sewer collection system, public roadway improvements, and sidewalks/bike paths along with landscape restoration.

The development is a mixed use industrial/commercial subdivision located on a 28-acre former brownfield site in the City of North Chicago. The proposed site contains 336,000 square feet (SF) of logistics/distribution buildings and 6.02 acres of commercial space.

This project is an important part of the community’s economic development plans to reinvigorate its immediate surroundings and help build a stronger more vibrant community facilitating the City’s broader redevelopment objectives of increased assessed valuation of adjacent real estate, increased tax revenues, promoting economic activity, and increased employment opportunities.

The Sheridan Crossing improvements will lead to employment in both construction and permanent employment for the region. Northeast Illinois has an employment concentration in Transportation & Logistics (key industry), which is directly related to the proposed 336,000 SF of warehouse/logistics space in this planned development.
