Trotter Attends the Illinois Boundary Law Principles and Legal Description Interpretation Seminar

Sep 25, 2017

Jim McKenzie, Director of Land Surveying, and Tom Cichowski, Chief Surveyor, recently attended Part One of the Illinois Boundary Law Principles and Legal Description Interpretation Seminar hosted by the Northeast Chapter of the Illinois Professional Land Surveyors Association (IPLSA) in Downers Grove, IL. The presenter was Richard F. Bales, Assistant Regional Counsel and Assistant Vice President of Chicago Title Insurance Company. Because of his many years of work with Illinois Surveyors, Mr. Bales has been awarded “honorary member” status in the IPLSA and is the definitive authority on Illinois Boundary Law. He also is the author of the newly written “Illinois Boundary Law Manual”. The seminar was presented to discuss the recent changes to the Illinois Land Surveyor Act of 1989 which was revised to include the term “Boundary Law Principles”. This change was incorporated into the ALTA/ NSPS Land Title Standards in 2011 and IPLSA worked to insert them into the revised Land Surveyors Act. Mr. Bales discussed and defined the “Boundary Law Principles” as they related to the practice of land surveying. Part Two of the seminar will be a continuation of discussion and review of the new manual and presented on October 25, 2017 at the Rockwood Tap House in Downers Grove, IL.
