104th Annual Illinois Transportation and Highway Engineering Conference

Mar 05, 2018

The 104th Annual Illinois Transportation and Highway Engineering (THE) Conference was held February 27 – 28, 2018 on the University of Illinois campus. There is a lot of momentum in the state of Illinois, and nationally, with respect to renewing and rebuilding the transportation infrastructure, as well as applying emerging vehicle technologies to enhance the safety and efficiency of the transportation system. Over the past decade, the state of Illinois has seen progress in designing and constructing more sustainable transportation infrastructure, rapid repair of roads, bridges, and airports; reductions in urban traffic delay, and a great interest in seeing connected and autonomous vehicles play a major role in a safer and more environmentally-friendly transportation system.

The technical program was laid out to update participants on legal issues for engineers, several construction case studies, emergency repairs of a collapsed bridge, roundabouts, sustainability metrics, 3D measurements and modeling, and much more. An exhibit/luncheon was enjoyed, followed by various breakout sessions and exhibits on topics such as:

  • Bridges & Structures
  • Design, Construction, & Environment
  • Traffic, Operations, & Safety
  • Local Roads & Streets

Thank you to THE Conference Administration, including the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois Association of County Engineers, and everyone else involved in making this conference a great success! We look forward to next year’s conference.
