2020 Internship

Jake Robinson

It has been a great experience, both educationally and professionally. The atmosphere created here provides a comfortable work experience that has taught me a lot. Everyone who works here is very knowledgeable in their field and productive in their work. From working under the Trotter Engineers, I’ve been educated in water/wastewater engineering and civil/environmental engineering. I’ve gotten hands on experience out in the field and on job sites, I’ve assisted in collaborative work with designing plans and specs, and I’ve learned much about how design and construction engineering is organized in the real world. I’m extremely glad that I had the opportunity to intern at Trotter.

Kate Schildmeyer

It’s been a fun and great opportunity to experience the corporate side of engineering, and the different career directions I could go with my major. I learned all about wastewater treatment and water systems as well as learning about civil engineering work. I was able to visit many different wastewater treatment facilities to understand the different processes utilized for different needs in each municipality. One of the things I enjoyed most about this internship was leading biweekly team training meetings about detailed processes of wastewater treatment; it was great experience to not only learn about the field but to present what I was learning back to the team. I enjoyed getting experience both in the office and in the field because it allowed me to see different type of work that environmental engineering consists of.

Jake Nienaber

Throughout the summer, I got to learn and experience many new things through my Internship. I was able to see stormwater analysis and modeling firsthand and apply many of the methods and calculations I’ve learned in my classes to a real-world scenario. I also found it very helpful to be able to work both with the Civil and WET groups from time to time, gaining knowledge in both general civil and environmental engineering. My favorite part about my summer was getting to experience the best of both worlds by working in the office and on-site. It is very useful to be able to visit a site and see some of the work and calculations put into action and gain a better idea of what it actually looks like.
