Pump Station and Pumping Equipment Considerations Training

Jan 16, 2018

The Illinois Section of American Water Works Association in conjunction with Grundfos Pumps Corporation and Danfoss Engineering and Technology sponsored a technical training event on January 9 th of 2018 that focused on issues relating to designing, operating and maintaining pumps and pumping equipment at water and wastewater pump stations.

Anthony Jarvis of Grundfos presented on pump station energy efficiency considerations including; pump design and pump curves, HP calculations, power consumption calculations and determining practical and efficient pumping scenarios.

Jeff Vornhagen of Danfoss presented on the proper application of Variable Frequency Drives; how VFD’s benefit a water or sewer system, inverter design and head curve review.

In addition to these presentations, attendees were able to gain hands on training by disassembling a pump and then re-assembling the pump to gain insight on maintenance and control troubleshooting applications.  A tour of the manufacturing and QA/QC process of the designing and building Grundfos Pumps was also provided to participants of this training.
